- Uganda: Another Niger Delta?
Secret oil deals uncovered by PLATFORM will allow UK oil companies to flare gas and spill oil in Uganda’s Lake Alberta region without any regulation or punishment. Unless they are renegotiated, these deals will guarantee huge profits for private oil companies while Ugandans suffer environmental hazards just like the Niger Delta. The deals are laid bare in a new report, ‘Contracts Curse‘ by PLATFORM.

On 30th December the District Court in The Hague rejected Shell’s submission that the Dutch court had no jurisdiction over Shell Nigeria. Four Nigerian villagers, in conjunction with Friends of the Earth Netherlands, can now press ahead with their lawsuit over damage caused by Shell oil spills in Nigeria. The next hearing is expected later in Spring.
