After a short break we are back this summer with events, news and audio podcasts.
- Launch of the Living Memorial at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre
Saturday 25th June, 12pm – 2pm
The Bernie Gran Arts Centre, Town Hall Approach Rd, London N15 4RX
The Bernie Grant Arts Centre and PLATFORM willofficially welcome the Living Memorial to Ken Saro-Wiwa to Tottenham on 25 June. The event will feature poetry and guest speakers, live music, dance and percussion, plus film screenings, a barbecue and stalls from local artists. The official launch will start at 1pm. All are welcome.
- Ogonis protest against new military base
On Sunday 12 June, Nigerian police reportedly shot dead two Ogoni youth protesting against the relocation of a military base to Ogoniland. A government official was also reported killed. The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, (MOSOP) has been mobilising peaceful protesters against the plan. Further details are available here.
- Shell challenged over pollution at AGM
In the Netherlands, Nigerian farmers alongside Milieu Defensie (Friends of the Earth NL) are currently suing Shell over oil spills in three Niger Delta communities. They held Shell accountable at the company’s AGM in May and issued a spoof ‘Erratum’ to Shell’s Sustainability Report 2010.

- Shell hit with Ogoni Lawsuit
Earlier in the Spring, the Ogoni community of Bodo filed a lawsuit in London against Shell over devastating oil spills in Ogoniland. Read more about the case and the issues here.
- New Podcast with “Comrade Che”
Check out the latest in a series of PLATFORMpodcasts with Niger Delta activists. “Comrade Che” is best described as a local legend. His life story is complex and fascinating.
